For the first time in 60 years, Russia’s top secret agency nuclear weapons monitoring has been exposed to monitor other countries’ nuclear tests.
CCTV News:Since the United States conducted the first human nuclear test, the Soviet Union at that time began to plan a secret monitoring department to monitor the nuclear tests of other countries. For this reason, the Soviet Union established a huge intelligence network around the world. Now this mysterious institution has been made public by the Russian Ministry of Defense for the first time in 60 years.
In 1945, the United States conducted a nuclear test and announced the birth of a new type of powerful weapon to the world. At that time, when the Soviet Union met this kind of weapon, it would play a decisive role in future wars, so it was necessary to keep abreast of the relevant actions of various countries. After 13 years of planning, the special monitoring bureau of the Soviet Ministry of National Defense was established on May 13th, 1958.
The bureau’s main task is to monitor nuclear tests in other countries’ nuclear test sites. For nuclear explosions registered with the Special Monitoring Bureau, the following detection methods will be used:
First, radio technology and methods — — Based on the electromagnetic pulse records generated during the atmospheric nuclear explosion;
Second, the seismic recording method — — Recording seismic waves generated by nuclear explosions and distributed around the world;
Third, infrasound inspection method — — Records of atmospheric pressure fluctuation based on the results of shock wave action;
Fourth, magnetic detection method — — Record the difference of earth’s magnetic field caused by nuclear explosion;
V. Radionuclide method — — Based on the records of radioactive materials formed by nuclear explosions and transmitted through air medium over a long distance.
In addition to monitoring nuclear explosions, the Special Monitoring Bureau continuously detects the earthquake and radiation environment on the earth, and cooperates with the Federal Emergency Department, the Hydrometeorological Bureau and the Geophysical Department of the National Academy of Sciences.
At present, the special control office has a huge network composed of many observation points, which are composed of special monitoring laboratories and independent earthquake recording points located inside and outside the Russian Federation. The information obtained from all network branches will be transmitted to the processing center in Moscow through communication channels. In addition to the information from its own laboratory, the processing center will also use the information from seismic recording stations, infrasound stations and radionuclide stations of the international monitoring system network. Russian media said that this huge information network covers the whole Russian territory, even the whole world.
The final processing and analysis of all the collected information is completed by the duty personnel of the special monitoring bureau, and the relevant reports are submitted to the leaders of the state and the Russian Federation armed forces in time.
